THIS WEEK IN SPARTA

LANGLEY, British Columbia – The Spartans soccer teams continue conference play this weekend, with the men's team continuing its home stand with two games, while the women are on the road in the Okanagan. Both teams will face the UBC Okanagan Heat and the Thompson Rivers WolfPack. The men will host the two Okanagan teams at Chase Office Field, while the women will be on the road in Kelowna, B.C., and Kamloops, B.C. All conference matches are streamed live on CanadaWest.TV. On the other pitch, the Spartans men's rugby team will have its second match of the season and be on the road against the UBC Thunderbirds in Vancouver, B.C.

  • The Spartans enter this weekend at 1-3-0 after a weekend split, 3-2 L, 1-0 W, last week against the UNBC Timberwolves.  
  • The Heat enter this weekend at 0-2-0 after dropping their Canada West home opening weekend matches 2-1 to Victoria, and 4-1 to UBC. TWU is currently 9-7-4 lifetime against UBC Okanagan. The Spartans split with the Heat last season, losing 1-0 in Kelowna, B.C., and winning 3-1 in Langley, B.C.
  • The WolfPack enter this weekend at 0-4-0. Last week, the WolfPack lost two home matches, 3-0 to the UBC Thunderbirds and 2-1 to the Victoria Vikes. The Spartans are 12-6-3 lifetime against the WolfPack. Last year, the Spartans were 0-1-1 against the Timberwolves, losing 2-1 in Kamloops, B.C., and tying 0-0 in Langley, B.C.

  • TWU (1-1-0), who are ranked No. 5 nationally, enter this weekend after a pair of 2-0 non-conference losses to NCAA Div. II Seattle Pacific, and Simon Fraser last weekend in Langley, B.C. Before that, the Spartans split their Canada West opening weekend on the road. TWU defeated Victoria 2-1 on Friday in Victoria, B.C., and lost to UBC 1-0 Saturday in Vancouver, B.C.
  • The Heat enter this weekend at 0-1-1 after a scoreless draw with Victoria and a 2-0 loss to UBC. TWU is currently 13-0-1 lifetime against UBC Okanagan. The Spartans, who have never lost to the Heat, defeated UBC O twice last season. Winning 1-0 in Kelowna, B.C., and 2-1 in Langley, B.C.
  • The WolfPack enter this weekend at 2-2-0. Last week, the WolfPack lost two home matches, 2-0 to the UBC Thunderbirds and 1-0 to the Victoria Vikes. The Spartans are 13-1-1 lifetime against the WolfPack. Last year, the Spartans dropped their first-ever match to the WolfPack, losing 1-0 at home in Langley, B.C. Earlier in the season, TWU defeated TRU 2-1 in Kamloops, B.C.

  • TWU enters this weekend after opening the 2025 season with a 54-3 win over the UBC Okanagan Heat at Rutland Recreation Park in Kelowna, B.C., last Saturday.
  • This Saturday's match is the first of the season for the Thunderbirds.
  • The Spartans have not beaten the Thunderbirds in their brief history and currently sit at 0-7 lifetime.
  • In their last game, TWU lost 66-35 to UBC in Vancouver, B.C.

As official members of U SPORTS, the Spartans currently compete in 11 sports in the Canada West conference, including women's and men's soccer, volleyball, basketball, hockey and track & field, as well as women's rugby sevens.
