SEATTLE – In the first meet of the 2026 season,
Sheleena Wiley nearly earned the U SPORTS auto qualifying standard in triple jump – an event that's new to her – with a mark of 12.04m to help lead the Spartans women's track and field team at the UW Preview at Dempsey Indoor. Wiley's jump was just seven centimetres shy of the U SPORTS standard.
On the men's side, Yemane Mulugeta broke the Spartans 3000m record with a time of 8:03.50 Saturday at the UW Preview at Dempsey Indoor. Mulugeta breaks an 11-year-old record, which was previously held by Declan White, who clocked a time of 8:05.94 Jan. 31, 2015 at Dempsey Indoor.
Mulugeta's time also earned him automatic qualification with the A standard for the NAIA Indoor Championships. He joins teammate Justin Kiplagat, who qualified with the A standard for the national championship in Friday night's 3000m race with a time of 8:19.39.
In pole vault, Jaime Eduardo Martin Huerta earned the qualifying standard for the U SPORTS Championships, clearing 4.82m.
The Spartans sprinting duo of Rui Ramsay and Favour Adeyanju showed well in the 60m, finishing fifth (6.89) and sixth (6.90) respectively.
Caleb Emon had a strong weekend jumping 7.08m in long jump Saturday after clearing 2.00m in high jump on Friday.
Ethan Gremaud had a huge personal best in the 600m, finishing second in 1:20.83.
