LANGLEY, B.C. – Trinity Western put together a tidy straight sets victory in their first preseason game of the year against U SPORTS competition, beating Toronto Metropolitan University 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-18) Friday at the Spartans on-campus David E. Enarson Gym. 
 
Playing without both Kaden Schmidt and Piers de Greeff, a new-look Spartans lineup showed well to earn a convincing win.

"First off, I want to shoutout our coaching staff. They have been great all season. They've been putting a lot of work in and the areas where they have been focusing has been a strength of ours. I'm very proud of our staff. It was great to get a lot of guys in and it was really cool to see other guys carry our offensive load when we don't have Kaden or Piers in the lineup. 
 
"Our setters were very organized offensively. Willem (Van Huizen) was great tonight and Ben (Pike) with the double-sub was really good. Zach Hofer is playing at the highest level he has ever played at, which is awesome to see. Then it was cool to see guys like Duke (Nathan Howden-Duke), Brayden (Long), Aiden (Vandenheuvel) and Daniil (Buleyko) take on big roles on the floor. In preseason we have to train for our depth because we don't really know what our lineup will be, so we need a lot of people on the floor and the guys have been playing well."
 
UP NEXT
TUW will now prepare for a three-game trip to Calgary where they will play Waterloo (Oct. 1), Queen's (Oct. 2) and Laval (Oct. 3) at Mount Royal University's Kenyon Court.
