LANGLEY, British Columbia – Trinity Western’s Henry Rempel (Swift Current, Sask.) has been named Canada West Men’s Volleyball Player of the Week for the weekend of February 22-24. The fourth-year outside hitter had a record-breaking weekend, leading the No. 8 Spartans to a 3-0, 3-1 series sweep of the Brandon Bobcats in the Canada West quarter-finals.

Rempel opened the weekend with 11 kills, hitting at .412, with six digs to lead the Spartans to a dominating 25-17, 25-17, 25-16 win over the Bobcats. The human kinetics student followed Thursday’s match with a record-breaking performance in the Spartans' 25-23, 25-20, 23-25, 25-19 victory over the Bobcats. Rempel finished the night with a personal best 27 kills while hitting at .404, with six digs, and a service ace in the four-set victory.

The performance breaks his personal best of 26 kills and breaks the TWU record of 24 kills in a four-set play-off match which was held by Brody Hofer ‘23, Blake Scheerhoorn ‘17, and Steven Marshall ‘13. Rempel also ties the Canada West record for kills in a four-set match in a Canada West play-off match, which Alberta's Taylor Hunt set against Calgary on February 25, 2012. The record by a Canada West player in a postseason match is 28 kills, which was set by Brandon's Sam Tuivai against Montreal on March 1, 2013.

Rempel and the Spartans will now be at home hosting the No. 9 Winnipeg Wesmen in the best-of-three Canada West semi-finals. Game times on Thursday and  Friday are set for 8 p.m. and if a third match is necessary it will be at 7 p.m. at the Langley Events Centre. All matches can be seen live on Canada West TV.
