LANGLEY, British Columbia – Trinity Western’s Kyra McDonald (Inuvik, NT) has been named Canada West Women’s Hockey Player of the Week for the weekend of January 24-25. McDonald finished the weekend with six points, including a program first hat trick, to lead the Spartans to a weekend sweep of the Calgary Dinos on the road in Calgary this past weekend. The sweep puts the Spartans on the verge of clinching a postseason berth.
The human kinetics student kicked things off with two goals and a helper in the Spartans' 6-1 victory on Friday. She made history the following night, recording the first hat trick in program history while leading the Spartans to a 4-1 win for the weekend sweep.
McDonald now sits tied for third in goal scoring in Canada West with 10 goals on the season.
McDonald and the Spartans will return home to host the Alberta Pandas on Friday, January 31 at the Langley Events Centre, and Saturday, February 1 at the George Preston Community Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. (PT), and 7:15 p.m. (PT) and can be seen live on Canada West TV.
