LANGLEY, British Columbia – Trinity Western's
Kate Fawcett (Tottenham, Ont.) has been named Canada West Women's Hockey Player of the Week. The fourth-year goalie helped the Spartans make program history, with their first-ever sweep of a Top 10 team as well as a program-best 30-point 14-12-1-1 season.
The Human Kinetics student was literally unbeatable last weekend, leading the Spartans into the playoffs on a major high note. On Friday night the human kinetics major made 33 saves to lead the Spartans to a 2-0 shutout win over the No. 6 Mount Royal Cougars in Calgary, Alta. Then on Saturday, she followed up with a 35-safe performance in a shootout, shutout in the Spartans 1-0 win.
Fawcett and the rest of the Spartans will now head on the road for a quarter-final series against the Manitoba Bisons in Winnipeg, Man. The best of three series will begin played February 21-23. Game times are set for 7 p.m. (CT) on the first two nights and then 5 p.m. (CT) for the third if necessary, game. All games can be seen live on Canada West TV.
