LANGLEY, British Columbia – Trinity Western fourth-year Oke Okumo (Airdrie, Alta.) has been named the Spartan Male Athlete of the Week after a record-breaking jump and a first-place performance at the Whitworth Invitational this past weekend at the Podium in Spokane, Wash.
The computer science student earned an automatic qualification for the U SPORTS championship with a jump of 7.30 meters, bettering TWU’s previous record of 7.28 meters set by James Linde on February 21 in Edmonton, Alta. The 7.30 meters put him second in the Canada West long jump rankings and tied for sixth in the U SPORTS rankings.
Okumo and the rest of the Spartans will now head to the Canada West track and field championships on February 21-22 in Regina, Sask.
