CALGARY – Coming off of three straight preseason losses, the Trinity Western men's volleyball team returned to the win column with a 3-0 (27-25, 25-17, 25-16) win over Saskatchewan Saturday in the Spartans final game of the Dino Cup.
After a tight first set, the Spartans turned the match in the second set when Carter Bergen (Winnipeg), who came off the bench, sparked TWU with a brilliant pipe ball that put momentum squarely in his team's corner for the rest of the match.
"Yesterday we saw a lot of missed serves and we were trying to serve aggressively," said Spartans coach Ben Josephson. "Today, we worked on our block defence situations and we only had three missed serves and everyone hit floats. In regards to our objectives, that went well. After Carter's pipe, we really started to roll and between that and working on our block defence, I thought we did some good things today."
The Spartans are now 3-3 in preseason action. They finished the Dino Cup with a 1-2 record.
TWU is back on the court next weekend when it will travel to Kamloops to participate in the Thompson Rivers tournament.
