SEVEN SPARTANS TO REPRESENT CANADA IN NORCECA CHAMPIONS CUP

LANGLEY, B.C. – Trinity Western will be very well represented this weekend at the 2019 Men's and Women's NORCECA Champions Cup Tournament in Colorado Springs, Colo., as seven Spartans, including four on Canada's women's team and three on the men's team, will don the Red and White.

The women's contingent includes current Spartans Brie King (Langley) and Hilary Howe (Calgary) along with TWU alums Alicia Perrin (Creston, B.C.) and Kristen Moncks (Standard, Alta.), while the men's team features current TWU athletes Eric Loeppky (Steinbach, Man.) and Derek Epp (Saskatoon) alongside alum Blake Scheerhoorn (Belleville, Ont.).

The Canadian men's team kicked off the tournament facing Cuba on Thursday at 12 pm (PT) while the women meet host USA at 4 pm  (PT).

The top team of each gender from this tournament will enter the zonal Olympic qualification tournament in January 2020. Canada will host the next pre-qualifier for men's teams, Sept. 2-7 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where the top three advance to the January tournament.

About Spartan Athletics
As official members of U SPORTS, the Spartans currently compete in 11 sports in the Canada West conference, including women's and men's soccer, volleyball, basketball, cross country and track & field, as well as women's rugby sevens. TWU also competes in the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League (BCIHL) in men's hockey and as an independent team in men's rugby. The men's and women's hockey programs will begin playing in Canada West and U SPORTS in 2020-21. Since TWU entered U SPORTS in 1999, the Spartans have won 12 U SPORTS team championships and 27 Canada West team championships and two BCIHL championships.
