Ava Van Santen (Aldergrove, B.C.) has been named to the Canada West Rugby 7's Dream Team for helping to lead the Spartans to a third-place finish in Canada West Rugby 7's tournament in Edmonton, Alta. The Spartans finish the tournament with a 3-2 record.
The Dream Team selection is the first of the season for the psychology student. VanSanten earned a Dream Team nod following a strong showing for the Spartans in the tournament. The fourth-year Aldergrove, B.C. product recorded three tries on the weekend, including scores in wins over Lethbridge and Alberta, and her overall play was a key factor in TWU defeating all three Alberta-based teams.
Also being named to the Dream Team were UBC's Lana Dueck, Kiki Idowu, and Adia Pye, Victoria's Olivia Newsome and Ivy Poetker, and Calgary's Bomi Lawal.
UBC finished the tournament in first place at 5-0, Victoria was second at 4-1, with TWU third at 3-2, followed by Calgary at 2-3, Alberta at 1-4, and Lethbridge at 0-5.
Van Santen and the Spartans will continue their season on February 7-8 when they travel to Victoria for the second tournament of the season.
