THIS WEEK IN SPARTA

 LANGLEY, British Columbia – This Week In Sparta is a playoff week for the men's and women's volleyball teams and the women's hockey team. The Spartan volleyball teams will be hosting the Saskatchewan Huskies in the Canada West quarter-finals, while the women's hockey team will be on the road against the UBC Thunderbirds in the Canada West semi-finals in Vancouver, B.C.

  • The Spartans finished 15-5 in conference play and third place in Canada West, while the Huskies finished 12-8 in CW and in sixth place.
  • Last year, the Spartans swept the Huskies in conference play, winning 3-2 and 3-1, while losing 2-1 in the best-of-three Canada West play-in series in Saskatoon, Sask., losing 3-1, winning 3-1, and losing 3-0.
  • Both teams had byes last week.
  • Trinity Western is currently 41-20 lifetime against Saskatchewan.

  • The Spartans finished 17-3 in conference play and second place in Canada West, while the Huskies finished 9-11 in CW and in seventh place.
  • Earlier this year the Spartans swept the Huskies 3-1 and 3-0 at the Langley Events Centre in Langley, B.C. on February 6-7.
  • Last year, the Spartans lost to the Huskies the best-of-three Canada West play-in series in Saskatoon, Sask., losing 3-1, winning 3-1, and losing 3-0.
  • The Spartans had a bye week last week, while the Huskies swept the Brandon Bobcats 3-0, and 3-1 in the play-in series in Saskatoon, Sask.

  • The Spartans finished 14-12-2-0 in CW conference play and third place in the West Division of Canada West, while UBC finished 26-2-0-0 in CW conference play and in first place in the West Division of Canada West.
  • In their last two meetings, the Spartans lost 4-0 and 4-2 to the Thunderbirds on January 23-24.
  • The Spartans are currently 2-29 lifetime against UBC.
  • Last week, the Spartans swept the Calgary Dinos, winning 5-1 and 4-2 in the best-of-three Canada West quarter-final, Calgary, Alta.
  • The series win was the first playoff series win in the Spartans' history.
  • The Thunderbirds enter the series after a bye week as the No. 1 team in Canada West and U SPORTS.

As official members of U SPORTS, the Spartans currently compete in 11 sports in the Canada West conference, including women's and men's soccer, volleyball, basketball, hockey, and track & field, as well as women's rugby sevens. TWU also competes as in the NAIA in track and field and cross country as an independent team in men's rugby and women's and men's disc golf.
