SPARTANS FALL TO SASKATCHEWAN

Box Score SASKATOON – Trinity Western's Sammy May had the Spartans lone goal, as TWU lost 6-1 against No. 8 Saskatchewan Friday at Merlis Belsher Place. 

TWU netminder Leon Sommer stopped 40 of the 46 shots he faced, but the Spartans (2-7) were unable to keep up with the nationally-ranked Huskies (8-3) who had a 46-21 edge in shots. 

Saskatchewan had six different goal-scorers with Cole Jordan, Landon Kosier, Raphael Pelletier, Chantz Petruic, Mac Gross and Ty Prefontaine all finding the back of the net. 

For the Spartans, Christian Lowe and Connor Farren tallied their fifth and sixth assists of the season respectively. 

The Huskies scored two goals in each period, with the Spartans May tallying midway through the third period to end the shutout bid for Saskatchewan's Jordan Kooy, who finished with 20 saves on the night. 

NOTABLE 
•    The Spartans were coming off a first-ever weekend sweep of the Regina Cougars. 
•    TWU and Saskatchewan's last meeting saw the Spartans earn their first-ever win over the Huskies – a 2-1 victory on Feb. 6, 2024 in a unique Tuesday morning matchup. 
•    Lowe leads the Spartans in scoring this year, with five goals and five assists in 10 games. 
•    Farren's six assists leads TWU.

TWU and Saskatchewan will play the rematch Saturday at 5 p.m. (CT) at Merlis Belsher Place.
