SPARTANS FALL TO NO. 3-RANKED UBC IN FINAL GAME OF SEMESTER

Box Score VANCOUVER – For the second night in a row, Trinity Western hung tight with the No. 3-ranked UBC Thunderbirds for 40 minutes, but as was the case Thursday night, the T-Birds put together a strong third period to seal a victory, winning 6-3 Friday at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Arena.

TWU's Connor Farren scored twice and Jeremy Klessens tallied once for the Spartans (2-15-1-0), but it wasn't enough against a UBC team (12-5-0-1) that has scored a Canada West-leading 81 goals this year in 18 games.

The Thunderbirds Scott Atkinson scored a hat-trick, while Jack Wismer, Chris Douglas and Jake Lee scored singles. Douglas and Lee added two assists apiece while James Form had three helpers.

TWU's Leon Sommer made 32 saves, while UBC goalie Cole Schweius stopped 11 of the 14 shots he faced. Tyler Schweitzer, Jake Jurgeneit, Christian Lowe and Daine Dubois earned assists.

With an assist, Lowe now has 16 points in TWU's last 12 games. Lowe is tied for sixth in points in Canada West with eight goals and 11 assists.

TWU's Klassens opened the scoring just 1:36 into the contest when he rifled a shot off the right wing under UBC goalie Schwebius.

The Thunderbirds struck back just 29 seconds later when Atkinson tallied the first of two in the period, sparking a three-goal UBC barrage that gave the home side a 3-1 lead through 20 minutes.

However, in the second period, Sommer stopped all 10 shots he faced and Farren scored less than three minutes into period – banging home an in-tight rebound – to bring TWU within a goal, 3-2, heading to the final frame.

Lee put UBC ahead 4-2 at 1:42 of the third period, with Douglas and Atkinson then adding to the T-Birds lead before Farren found the back of the net with just under four minutes to go to round out the scoring.

With 1:58 to go, UBC's Jonny Lambos was given a five-minute major and a game misconduct after a cross check to the head of TWU's Luke Spadafora
