TWU EARNS SECOND STRAIGHT WIN OVER WINDSOR

WINDSOR, Ont. – On the strength of a strong serving night and an efficient attack, Trinity Western beat Windsor in four sets for the second night in a row, winning 3-1 (25-21, 25-10, 22-25, 25-17) Friday at the Toldo Lancer Centre.

The Spartans had a 14-5 edge in aces and hit .481 as a team to earn their third win in as many preseason games this year.

Piers De Greeff had a match-high 16 kills and eight digs, while Kaden Schmidt had 13 kills and four aces. Cory Schoenherr had eight kills and two blocks from the middle.

Setter Anselm Rein had 36 assists and three aces.

Windsor's Darian Koskie led the Lancers with 10 kills.

TWU had three sets in which they hit above .500, highlighted by an errorless second set when the Spartans hit .846 as a team with 11 kills on 13 attempts.

Windsor countered by hitting .338, including a third set in which they hit .667.

QUOTABLE
Adam Schriemer, TWU Head Coach
"It's sometimes tough to evaluate matches when terminal serve plays such a big factor. I thought there were moments in the first two sets and the fourth set where we served at a really high level and we were able to get direct results. The hard part was that in the third set we didn't serve the way we are capable of and we flinched in a lot of situations when it was close. I don't necessarily like how we were with our systems and skills in the third set and we got a bit sloppy and when that happens against a team like Windsor, they'll make you pay.

"Anselm has been playing incredible this preseason and I thought he was dialed in today and that was great to see. Kaden and Cory played some great volleyball in their home province and we're looking forward to seeing them play well again these next two days."

UP NEXT
The Spartans will play Guelph (Sept. 27) and Waterloo (Sept. 28) to wrap up a four-match trip to Ontario.
